Our yellow lab Mufasa was the best dog Jenny and I have ever had. We had to put Mufasa down on Friday, February 1st, only a few weeks before his 13th birthday. He lived a long and very good life. Despite his waning eye-sight, diminished hearing, and weak hind legs, he was one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever seen, right up until night-night time the night before he passed.
Mufasa was the type of dog who would walk into every room of the house until he knew where everyone was. He liked keeping his pack together. Just about everyday, he would poke his head into the shower to make sure we were still around.
He was a drive-by kisser. If we had shorts on, we were sure to get a kiss on the leg from Mufasa. If we had just come back from the gym, we wouldn’t need a shower because Mufasa would bath us in kisses.
We’re pretty sure Mufasa slept all day, especially in his later years. But man, as soon as we walked in the door and he heard that beep-beep-beep from the alarm system, he sprung into a state of excitement and joy. He was always sooooo happy to see us. He would come greet us. then search around for this one half ripped apart, yellow football. And, it couldn’t be any of the other two footballs, he had to have his football. Once he had his football he would go to the center of the living room (or center of the bedroom), drop his ball on the floor and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark (…) until someone played with him.
Even though Mufasa is no more, our love for him lives on. Mufasa will be in our hearts for the rest of our lives. I love you Mufasa!
